4 Year Olds (VPK)
4’s (VPK) Class Curriculum:
Nemours BrightStart! Superset Preschool Curriculum (3 to K) 1st & 2nd edition, and Learn Every Day
Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten (VPK) is a program offered for free through the State of Florida to all 4-year-olds. VPK will help prepare your child for successful learning in Kindergarten and beyond. VPK students receive assessments three times per year to track their learning progress.
VPK learning takes place from 9:00am to 12:00pm (FREE!) but we also offer wrap-around care available from 7:30am to 5:30pm Monday through Friday.
In addition to filling out enrollment forms with our school, you’ll need to apply for VPK through Florida’s Office of Early Learning to receive a voucher for free VPK.
A Day In The Life
Of a 4 Year Old
Arrival / Dismissal
During COVID-19 we are doing outdoor check-in and temperature checks upon arrival.
Free Play
4-year-olds still do a lot of their learning through play! They have time to play in centers around the classroom that are geared towards fun and learning.
Snacks and Meals
Morning and afternoon snack are provided by the school, lunch is provided by the family (if your child stays for wrap-around care.) Students say a prayer before meals, practice hand washing, and use basic table manners.
Learning Time
VPK students learn together as a class, and by doing small group or individual activities with a teacher. You might find them reading a story together, doing an “All About Me” project, or working on writing their letters and numbers.
Rest Time
If your child stays for wrap-around care, they will rest on a cot (cot and sheet provided and sanitized by the school, blanket provided by the family) for 90 minutes in the afternoon. They aren’t required to nap, but simply to rest quietly.
Outdoor Play
The class goes outside twice per day, weather permitting, on our beautiful playground! We provide balls, chalk, bubbles, and group games as well as free play time.
Chapel
Each class attends a weekly Chapel time with Ms. Carey for songs and Bible stories!
Potty
We give our 4-year-olds frequent reminders to use the restroom. We understand that accidents still sometimes happen!
Arts and Crafts
VPK students will bring home lots of crafts and projects based on the letter, number, and theme of the week.
